100 day project intention - Sam Horton Studio

100 day project intention

STUDIO BEHIND THE SCENES ///

In September I started a 100 Day Project, you may have seen some posts on instagram?

I did a 100 day project a few years ago. It was called 100 days of black lines and letters #100daysofblacklinesandletters . I filled an 88 page sketch book with pencil and fine liner drawings. You can check it out on instagram here. It taught me some things about what I do and don't want to do with my art going forward. It also got me showing up to my art practice and pushing through, because it gave me focus and guidelines. It helped me keep my art simple and gave it purpose.

The reason for me starting this new project was because, I reached a sticky point last month as I was trying to finish off a collection I had committed to.

I realised I was stuck in lots of seriousness and that I missed painting quick and loose florals and having fun with my art, so I knew I must do something about it.

In many of my large originals these bohemian style florals feature in the background or on props and costumes in the painting. Often in tandem with more realistic florals. They are not supposed to be perfect. Rather, just pretty dots and strokes of paint resembling flowers. Here are the first few paintings.

So in an effort to create daily balance with my art practice. I am going to paint 100 of them, it may take longer than 100 days but the intention is there. I'm not doing this to overwhelm myself and give myself more to do! It is a very long list 🤣 but simply to go back to the beginning and start my day with a quick and easy tiny painting. In an attempt to remind myself of the simple joy of art making, before I get into the highly detailed and focused stuff for the day.

I'm going to give it a shot for 100 days and see what happens, #the100dayproject .

I'm calling it 100 days of little bohemian florals #100daysoflittlebohemianflorals.

Have you ever tried a 100 Day Project? How did it go? Tell me below in the comments 💗
