There is beauty in surprise…
As I started to lay down the first layers of blue and purple petals of these delphinium flowers, I started to panic as I did not see the contrast between the blue and pink in the background that I had anticipated.
Regardless, I continued to build up intricate details. I came to realise that the contrast I expected was more subtle because of the size of these blossoms, not due to the colours. The dainty little flowers melting into the background due to their size more than their colours.
The effect in these paintings grew on me as I continued painting, and I started to contemplate whether this was, in fact, more of an abstract arrangement whereby one layer seamlessly melts and merges into the next.
I played with the details in these flowers until I was satisfied, and I am still musing over whether the effects captured in these little paintings have a place in my work as it continues to evolve.
These paintings filled me with surprise, but they still offer an intriguing beauty that I am still letting settle in my creative brain.
