My intention for creating this painting
I painted "Gratitude" as a love letter to life’s simple blessings — those moments that ground us, open our hearts, and reconnect us with the present. The young woman, eyes closed and softly smiling, stands surrounded by blooming lavender — a symbol of calm and healing — holding a bouquet filled with daisies, pink wild flowers, lavender sprigs, and a bold sunflower at the centre. Each bloom was chosen with care to represent light, joy, and the beauty of an open heart. She is not searching or striving — she is simply being, and in that stillness, she is whole.
What this painting evokes for me personally, on reflection
Reflecting on this painting brings me a sense of calm and reverence. It takes me back to those quiet, fleeting moments when I feel deeply present — often while walking in nature, watching my daughter laugh, or holding a hot cup of tea in the early morning light. Painting her reminded me how often joy is hiding in plain sight. It’s not about chasing more — it’s about noticing and receiving what’s already here. She feels like a breath out… a sacred pause to acknowledge all that is good.
